About Día de los Muertos in the RGV

Día de los Muertos honors loved ones who have died. In the Valley it is celebrated from late October through November 2 with community altars (ofrendas), marigolds, sugar skulls, music, folklórico dance and catrina contests. Museums, libraries and downtown districts in Brownsville, McAllen, Harlingen and Edinburg host many of the events.

Many altar displays and community nights are free. Some festivals sell tickets or charge for face painting and workshops. We list prices when organizers post them and add events as they are announced.
